Nancy Fraser Pearson, of Mentor, OH, formerly of Atlanta, GA, and Beaufort, SC, died on December 25, 2009. Mrs. Pearson was married to Dr. Hugh O. Pearson, Jr., MD (recently deceased), for 51 years. She is survived by her sons, Hugh O. III (Lynne), of Mentor, OH, Fraser (Martine), of Rome, GA, Christopher (Katherine), of Atlanta, GA, and grandchildren Riley, Holly, Fraser, and Mabrey. Mrs. Pearson was born in Savannah, GA, on Dec.12, 1934. She graduated from Washington Seminary in Atlanta, and Randolph Macon Women’s College in VA. Dr. & Mrs. Pearson lived in Beaufort, SC for 42 years, where she was a school teacher. She was a member of St. Helena’s Episcopal Church and a member of The Clover Club for over 33 years in Beaufort. Mrs. Pearson also served as Chairman of the Beaufort County Library and co-edited The Sea Island Seasons Cookbook for The Beaufort County Open Land Trust. Thomas F. Haskins, Sr.

February 9, 1924 - December 23, 2009

Thomas F. Haskins, Sr., 85, died on December 23, 2009 after an extended illness. Tom was born in Wheeling, West Virginia on February 9, 1924. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in Wheeling and furthered his education at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pa. where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. Tom completed his education at the University of Pittsburgh when he received his Masters in Marketing. Toms advanced schooling was interrupted by service in the United States Army during World War II in the XI Corps Artillery in the Pacific in the Philippines, Guam and later in the occupation of Japan. He was discharged as a Chief Staff Sergeant. Tom and his family moved to Barberton from Pittsburgh in 1966. He was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Church and in 1989 retired from the Mogadore School System where he taught at the high school. Tom loved to sing and was often accompanied by his wife on the piano. He was a life long tinkerer, collector, music lover, reader, thinker and learner. He enjoyed a long life and loved and cared for his family and friends. He will be missed. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary Lou; his brother, Robert of Houston, Texas; his children, Thomas Jr. (wife Elizabeth), and Kathleen Kirby (husband Kent); granddaughter, Kimberly; grandsons, Thomas Patrick Haskins (wife Ashley), Ryan Kirby, Eric Kirby, and Christopher Haskins; step-grandsons, James Grondin (wife Marisa), Al (Buddy) Schoenthal (wife Elizabeth) and Christopher Schoenthal; great-grandchild, Liam Robert Haskins; step great-grandchildren, Gwendolyn Schoenthal, Marguerite Grondin, and Matthew Schoenthal. DR. HUGH OLIVER PEARSON, M.D. died Oct. 21, 2009. Born Feb. 16, 1931 in Wilson, NC. Dr. Pearson graduated from Wake Forest and Duke University Medical School. He lived and practiced medicine in Beaufort, SC from 1959-2000. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Nancy of Mentor; sons Hugh III (Lynne) of Mentor, Fraser (Martine) of Rome, GA, and Christopher (Katherine) of Atlanta, GA; brother RADM John Pearson USN (Ret) (Georgeanne) of Norfolk, VA and grandchildren: Riley, Holly, Fraser and Mabrey. Dr. Pearson was Chief of Staff at Beaufort County Memorial Hospital for many years. He also was a member of St. Helena's Episcopal Church in Beaufort where he served on the Vestry for many years. He was co-founder of the Friends of Caroline Hospice in Beaufort and served as President of the Board of Directors for many years. Dr. Pearson's focuses in life were his family, friends in Beaufort, and his patients. Funeral services will be at a later date in Beaufort, SC. Funeral services for Sara Kathy Dzanko, 9, of Mentor, will be 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, at St. Paul Croatian Catholic Church, 1369 E. 40th St. (near St. Clair Ave.), Cleveland. (Everyone is asked to please meet at the church.) Sara passed away Sept. 21, 2009. She was born Nov. 20, 1999. Sara was a 4th grade student at Bellflower Elementary School in Mentor, member of Girl Scout Troop 922, and also a member of the School of Croatian Language. Sarah gave the gift of life as an organ donor, the most heroic gift anyone could ever make to save the lives of others. Sara was a most loving child...her smile showed she loved everyone unconditionally. She loved playing with her brother Luka and the neighborhood children and her cousins who came over to visit. She was full of life and one could see her verve for life as she ran and jumped merrily through life. Her interests were varied, she enjoyed swimming, was interested in sports and art and truly loved horses and having pets. She was a delight to her parents, grandparents and great-grandparents, as well as her many aunts, uncles and cousins. Unforgettable "Sara Kathy Dzanko"...friend to all who came to know and love her and a hero to others who never knew her, but were given the ultimate gift of life by her organ donation. Survivors are her parents, Steve and Marina Dzanko; brother, Luka; grandparents, Andrew and Marija Dzanko and Vlado and Elidija Orsolic; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Stjepan and Barica Lackovic. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, at Monreal Funeral Home, 35400 Curtis Blvd., Eastlake. Funeral Mass for Joseph Steven Phillips Sr., 90, of Highland Heights, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Painesville. (Friends are asked to please meet at the church.) Mr. Phillips died Nov. 15, 1918, in South Fork, Pa., he had lived in Cleveland before moving to Highland Heights 35 years ago. He was a member of the V.F.W., and Plumbers Union Local 55. He was also a U.S. Navy veteran. Mr. Phillips had worked as a plumber for Northern Ohio Plumbing. Survivors are his wife, Dorothy; sons, Nick J. (Carol A.) and Joseph S. Jr. (Mary); grandchildren, Candice, Todd J. (Krystal), Nick Jr., Joseph S. ANA MILOVAN (nee Mahovlic), age 59. Beloved wife of Drago. Ana passed away after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Ana was born in Croatia and came with her family to Cleveland in 1960. She graduated from Collinwood H.S. and worked 32 years for Dominion East Ohio. She lived most of her life in the area. Ana loved nature and enjoyed reading, baking, walking by the lake and in parks and traveling with Drago, her husband of 33 years. She is survived by her husband, sisters Mira (Mato,deceased) and Kathy (Frank), stepmother Dragica and brothers Ivan (Shannon) and Peter (Barbara), 14 nieces and nephews and many cousins in Europe.
