Mrs. Valentic passed away on December 17, 2011 and was born in 1923 in Croatia. She came to America and lived in Cleveland before moving to Wickliffe where she has lived for the past 34 years. She was a long time member of St. Paul Croatian Catholic Church and retired from Zalauric Manufacturing. She is survived by her daughters: Janja Cvitkovic (George), Maria Jurcevic (Mate) and Draga Matic (Milan); her grandchildren: Kathy Knutson (Rick), Zeljko Cvitkovic (Stephanie), Ivica Cvitkovic (Thomas Frey), Darlene Zwolinski (Michael), Dennis Jurcevic (Kristina), Maria Jukic (Tihomir), Katarina, Daniel and Anton Matic; and six great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. After escaping communist Yugoslavia in 1945, he married and lived in Austria. He came to America in 1956 and lived in Cleveland for 49 years. He moved to Los Angeles, CA in 2005 to be cared for by his sister. He was a long time member of St. Paul Croatian Catholic Church and numerous lodges and organizations. She fled her home in 1944 toward the end of World War II and lived in a refugee camp in Linz, Austria until 1949 when she emigrated to the United States. She married Jerome Brentar on June 14, 1952 at St. Paul’s Church in Cleveland, Ohio. They lived in Munich Germany for seven years before settling in Cleveland, Ohio to raise their five children. Her spirit and sense of humor will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her children: Carolyn Suzi Music (Boris), Mary Ann Drazina (Tomislav), John T., and Dora Bourgault; and her grandchildren:Mara Drazina, Christopher Music, Ante Drazina, Susanna (Suzy) Music, and Victoria Music. JAKOV CIRJAK, 84, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2011. He was born in Popovici, Croatia on August 17, 1926. He came to the United States in 1962 and made a life for himself and his family. He proudly became an American Citizen in 1975. A loving father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife Marija; his sons: Zvonko (Snjzana) and Wallace (Ruth); his daughter Julia (Scott) Thornhill; and grandchildren: Marko, Aaron and Geoffrey Hopkins, and Quinn and Sofia Thornhill. ALMA M. ZAGER (nee De’Ville), age 95. Generous, kind, loving and a wonderful friend to all, has gone to join her beloved late husband Benjamin and sister Julia in heaven. Loving mother of Andrea Bertin (Vince); beloved nonna of Alexandra and Alison; dear cousin of Mary Preseren. A lifelong neighborhood activist, Alma lived in the same home for 85 years in downtown Cleveland. Mary Yirka Vugrincic

April 19, 1923 - April 14, 2011

MARY YIRKA VUGRINCIC passed away, surrounded by her children and grandchildren, on April 14, 2011. Born in Glina, Croatia in 1923, she died five days before her 88th birthday. After WWII, she married Branko A. Yirka in Austria, where they were refugees. After his death in 1977, she married Cedomil F. Vugrincic who died in 2000. Mary is the mother of Margaret Vugrin, Manja Yirka and Carl Yirka. Along with her children, she leaves twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mary was a parishioner of St Paul's Croatian Church since she arrived in Cleveland in 1950. She had been employed at Zenith Plastics, Lawyers' Title Corporation and Red Cross of Northern Ohio. She retired in 1980 an avid gardener and world traveler. Visitation will be Sunday, April 17 from 3-7pm at GOLUB FUNERAL HOME, 4703 SUPERIOR AVE., CLEVELAND. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday ,10am at St. Paul's Croatian Church, 1375 E. 40th St. (Cleveland). Inurnment will be at Mirogoj Cemetery, Zagreb, Croatia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 300 E. 185th St., Cleveland, OH 44119.

She was born on January 7, 1968 in Croatia. She came to the U.S. in 1984 and has lived in Wickliffe for the past 18 years. She was a member of St. Paul Croatian Church. Ms. Katic worked as an inspector for Quality CNC for the past 2 years and for Universal Screw for 16 years. She is survived by brother Nikola; many nieces and nephews; and many friends. Mrs. Kurtik passed away on March 11 at Hospice of the Western Reserve surrounded by family. She was born on January 9, 1920 in Zborov, Czechoslovakia. For many years she was very active at St. Andrews parish and school, as well as a valued office manager at Thomas Brick Co. For the past two years, she resided at Light of Hearts Villa in the Pastoral Care unit in Bedford. She is survived by her children: Annette (Bob) Karnak and Janet (Brian) Walsh; her grandchildren: Chris (Allison), Patrick and Ellen Karnak; great granddaughter Natalie; her siblings: Anne Wallis, Ed, Patty Snider; sisters in law and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill; her brothers Joe and Andy and brother-in-law Frank Wallis. Born March 26, 1939 in Bosnia where she lived most of her life before moving to Eastlake in 2000. She was very proud to become a U.S. Citizen in 2010. She quickly made many friends here and was affectionately referred to as “Baka.” She is survived by her children: Zeljka Duric (Mile), Katica Lijak (Zdravko) and Niko (fiance: Franka Vukovic); and 6 grandchildren. He was a 40 year resident of Euclid and formerly of Cleveland. He was a member of SS Robert & William Catholic church and a retired from the Cleveland Police force as a Sgt. after 30 years. Survivors are his children: John C. Jr. (Kathi), Maryann V.
