In Memory of Marija Lapic, age 91, of Mentor who passed away on Dec 28th 2020. Marija born in Croatia and moved to Cleveland in 1979 to be closer to her family. She was a truly selfless woman who devoted her life to her husband, her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Marija is survived by her dear children: Mike (Doriana), Nikola (Zdenka), Zorka Skukan, and Vlado (Pavica); her grandchildren: Julie, Melissa, Mario, Maria, Annie, Nikki, Ivana and Valentina; and her 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Valentin; her infant daughter, Jagica; and her son-in-law: Milan Skukan. Valentino Panic

April 12, 1994 - November 1, 2020

Valentino Panic, 26, of Mentor passed away in a car accident on November 1, 2020. He was born April 12, 1994 in Zagreb, Croatia. Valentino Panic was the light of everyone’s world. He cared for everyone and anyone he came in contact with, even if he had just met the person. He absolutely loved art. He had an artistic talent and imagination like no other. Tino was beyond talented and motivated in anything he put his mind to. Tino always made sure everyone he was around was always happy and smiling. He was the greatest listener and would put others problems before himself. He was selfless and dedicated to his friends. Tino loved DragonBall Z, history, his family, his friends, and most of all, laughing. He was a traveler and lived life to the fullest everyday. He was spontaneous and adventurous. He adored his sister and parents, and loved his girlfriend. He was a friend, a brother, a son, a grandson, a nephew, and a beloved boyfriend to the love of his life. He is survived by his parents, Miro an Andja; his sister, Valentina; his uncle, Marinko; his cousin, Gabriela; and many family in Croatia and Europe. Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center St. (Route 615, north of Route 2), in Mentor. Michael Makarich Jr.

November 8, 1936 - October 11, 2020

Michael Makarich Jr., 83, of Willoughby Hills, passed away at his home on Oct. 11, 2020, surrounded by his loving children. Born Nov. 8, 1936 in Yugoslavia, Michael was the resident photographer wherever he went, and knew how to work any tool he was given. Michael was fondly known to many as the "Candyman" and "Mr. Mak," and could always be found making something in his basement workshop. He was preceded by his caring wife, Catherine; and parents, Michael Sr. and Mary. He is survived by his dear children, Mary (Armando) Calderon, Barbara and Michael R.; his granddaughters, Jenna and Sara Calderon; his brother, Joe (Marti), and nephews Jeff, Tony and Andy; his sister in law, Catherine Barkovich; and nephew Brendan Barkovich. Family will receive friends to pay their respects to Michael at the DeJohn Flynn-Mylott Funeral Home of Willoughby Hills, 28890 Chardon Rd. (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91), Friday, Oct. 16, 4-8 PM. Antun Babic, age 79, of Kirtland, passed away October 11 at Hospice of the Western Reserve. He was born in Croatia on August 18, 1941. He lived in Cleveland prior to moving to Kirtland in 1981. He was a member of St. Paul Croatian Catholic Church and Divine Word Catholic Church. He is survived by his daughter, Renee Babic, and his son, Andrew Babic (Jennifer); and his grandsons: Paxton, Louka, Roman, and Xavier. He was preceded in death by his parents Andrija and Ana (nee Petanjak) and his brother, Mato. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, October 15 at the DeJohn-Flynn-Mylott Funeral Home of Willoughby Hills, 28890 Chardon Road(between Bishop Rd and Rt. 91). Ante "Tony" Knezevic, 90, of Eastlake, passed away October 8, 2020 surrounded by family. He was born March 10, 1930 in Oklaj, Croatia. He is survived by his daughters: Gordana Kovacevic (Dragan), Mira "Maryann" Rosandic, Ljubica Tomic (Zvonko); his grandchildren: Mira "Nana" Kovacevic, Mickey Cernanec (Bill), Brigitte, Kristian, and Daniel Rosandic, Ivan Tomic (Heather) and Ivana Tomic; great grandfather of Gianna Tomic; and many nieces, nephews and loved ones in Croatia, Germany, and Austria. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ljubica; his son-in-law, Zlatko Rosandic; and many family in Croatia. Lydia C. Colson

September 1, 1926 - September 27, 2020

Lydia Catherine Colson, (nee Venturini) was born September 1, 1926 in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and attended the French Lycee there. After WWII she accepted a position as Governess in Brussels, Belgium where she met her late husband Julien Colson to whom she was married for 45 years. They emigrated to Canada in 1956 then immigrated to the United States in 1957. Lydia attended Case Western Reserve University and earned her Doctorate in French in 1970. She was employed at Hiram College from 1962 to 1969 and subsequently headed the German Department at Cuyahoga Community College from 1969 to 1999 when she retired. In 1975, Dr. Colson was one of only 22 professors from across the U.S. chosen to attend a six weeks seminar in Cairo, Egypt under the auspices of the U. S. State Department and sponsored by the League for Innovation in Junior Colleges. This was one of many trips she took throughout Africa and Europe as an educator either to attend Seminars or to lecture under sponsorships of French, German and Austrian Governments. Lydia was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She is survived by her daughters Viviane (Richard) Buchanan, Michele (Douglas) Gormley, Marcella (Marek) Wojcik, 5 Grandchildren Taryn, Stephanie (Tyler), Catherine, Alexander, Lauren and 4 Great Grandchildren Gabriella, Liam, Zachary and Oscar. Additionally, a niece Lydia (Mark) and her sister-in-law Marcelle Venturini of Lancaster, CA. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Julien A. Colson, and her brother, Theodore Venturini. Srecko Rimac, 81, of Wickliffe, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on August 4, 2020. He was born on September 22, 1938 in Glamoc, Croatia, to the late Jakov and Mara Rimac. Husband of Terezija (nee Sucic); loving father of Lucy (Jerry) Dumancic, Helena and Mate (Tiffany); loving grandfather of Matija, Braco, and Marta Dumancic and Ema Rimac; dear brother of Stana Penic of Croatia and the deceased: Ante, Bila, Marko, Luca, Tadija, Anda, Tome (Elizabeta), Vlado (Slavica, surviving); and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Srecko was a compassionate and hardworking man. He took pleasure in riding his tractor around the backyard with his grandchildren, wood carving figurines of birds, playing the harmonica for his family, challenging friends and family to a game of chess, and watching his son play basketball for hours in the park. Josip Radosevic, 84, of Euclid, passed away on July 20, 2020. He was born on March 20, 1936 in Bukova, Croatia. Survived by beloved wife, Anica. Dearest father of Maria Perisa (Boro), Stjepan (deceased), John, Vera, Josip Jr. (Sherrii). Cherished grandfather of Melissa, Michelle Balint (Steve), Stipo, Ricky, Davor, Josip III, Hannah, Alex. Adored great-grandfather of Braelynn, Benjamin, Mary. Leaves behind many relatives and friends in Croatia, Sweden, Australia. Private family service Friday, July 24, 2020. Interment All Souls Cemetery. Memorial Mass and celebration of life at a later date. Josip was loved by so many. Everyone called him "Dido". He invited all to his home and no one ever left his table hungry or thirsty. He was known for his famous version of Slivo and shared many bottles. Dido took pride in his home whether he was watering his perfectly-manicured lawn, pulling vegetables out of his immaculate garden, or decorating his gorgeous Christmas tree. He always made the best lamb and pig roasts and people eagerly waited for the yearly celebration. Dido was an avid hunter but mostly loved walking around in the fresh air and watching the animals. Dido will be missed by so many. Family, friends and even strangers who he met for a few hours but made a lasting impression on them for life.

Mile Basic, 71, of Euclid, passed away on May 25, 2020. He was born in Tinj, Croatia on March 28, 1949. Mile came to the U.S. in 1970 and lived in Cleveland before moving to Euclid in 1977. He worked proudly as a machinist and enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, playing bocce and spending time with his grandchildren. Always dear to his heart, was his homeland of Croatia. He is survived by his wife, Kristina; his son: Dennis (Marija); his grandchildren: Nikola, Gabrijela and Angela; his siblings, Luka (Stoja) and Stoja of Croatia; his brother-in-law, Mate Brkic; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luka and Slavka; and his siblings, Sime, Anica and Marija. Private Family Calling Hours at Golub Funeral Home. Anna Jelenic (nee Markovinovic), 92, of Lakewood, Ohio, beloved mother of Angela (Anthony), Tomislav (Cheryl), Milka, Mary Ann (Dale), Rudolph (Milica), Magdalen (Robert), Michael (deceased), John (Renee), James (Kelly) (both deceased) and Jackie (deceased). Her grandchildren include Alyssa, Alexa; Andrew; Jason; Melissa, Ian; Michael; Jessica, Justin; Stephanie. Her great grandchildren include Isobel, Dominik; Dylan, Aubrey; Natalia Kelly, Rocco; Aaliyah, Jeremiah, Jermaine. She was born July 20, 1927, in Misljenovac, Donji Lapac, Velebit, Lika, Croatia. She was the second-oldest of seven children and has a sister, Kata, and a brother, Zvonko, in Zagreb. She is predeceased by her siblings Bosko, Mile, Marica and Manda. A fierce Croatian patriot, she left Croatia and fled to Austria, ending up in a British refugee camp in Spittal, Austria, in 1945. She married Pavle Peric, and with two children, emigrated to the United States in 1951. She lived most of her life in Cleveland, in the "old neighborhood" near St. Pauls Croatian Catholic Church before moving to Lakewood. Whenever anyone in the family needed help at some point in their lives, they turned to her. Despite her many children and frequent hardships, she always remained an optimist. Our mother is the kindest person we ever knew and always gave more than she ever took. We will miss her all of our days. All services private, Memorial Mass at a later date.

Ivan Skrtic, 78, of Willoughby, passed away May 5, 2020, surrounded by family. He was born January 10, 1942 in Gornji Velemeric, Croatia. He is survived by his daughters, Zeljka Cenin (Joe) and Ana Tomic (Dan); his grandchildren: Arielle and Danielle Cenin, and Nikola, Marko, and Daniel Tomic; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his dear wife, Ana; his parents, Dora and Nikola; and his brother, Petar of Australia. Services will be private. Entombment All Souls Cemetery, Chardon. Close friends may meet at the cemetery gate on Saturday, May 9 at 11am for a service in front of St. Anthonys Mausoleum.

Patricia Anne Maderka (nee Lonergan), 74, of Eastlake entered eternal rest on April 23, 2020. She was born December 6, 1945 in Cleveland, Ohio. She is survived by her beloved husband, of 53 years, Raymond Michael Maderka; her three children, Raymond Maderka (Lisa), Julie Wenzlik (Brandon) and Amie Nickerson (Greg); six grandchildren, Joseph Maderka, Kate Wenzlik, Gavin Nickerson, Elizabeth Maderka, Anna Wenzlik and Claire Wenzlik. Patricia had a deep love for her family, it was the most important part of her. She was known as Nana and often showed her love through cooking fabulous meals for the family. A private family service will be held to honor Patricia. She will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Cleveland.

David A. Ross, age 40, passed away sadly before his time on March 23, 2020. David was an avid Cleveland sports fan and graduated from Kent State University with a degree in accounting and finance. Vaskresija Dzodzo

March 26, 1944 - March 23, 2020

Vaskresija "Beba" Dzodzo (nee Sersic), 75, of Rocky River passed away peacefully at her home on March 23, 2020 after a 3-year battle with PSP. She was born on March 26, 1944 in Punat, Croatia. She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Lazo; her son Vladimir and his wife Violeta; her son Nikola and his wife Mirjana; her grandchildren: Marko, Philip, Anna and Stefan; her brother Tomislav in Macedonia. She was preceded in death by her parents Marko and Slavka, her sister Đurđica and her brother Ivan. She grew up in Ohrid, Republic of Macedonia. She graduated Physics at the University of Sarajevo, got married and lived in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina until 1992. When the Bosnian War started, she found a refuge for her children and herself in Ohrid. Her family reunited in USA in 1998 and lived in Akron, OH until 2010, when she moved to Rocky River to be closer to her grandchildren. As a physics teacher, she loved teaching and tutoring, working with students of all ages. She also worked for Akron International Institute, as an interpreter helping refugees from former Yugoslavia settle in Northeast Ohio. Her favorite time was the time she spent caring for her four grandchildren: Marko, Philip, Anna and Stefan; hosting family and friends and cooking her old country specialties. She enjoyed traveling, listening to music and going to classical music concerts. Always smiling and kind, we will remember her for her selflessness, care, warmth and hospitality. Due to her mixed Croatian-Macedonian upbringing, she enjoyed going to both Catholic Church and Macedonian Orthodox Church. As a result of the current pandemic, the family has decided to hold a private service and burial on March 26, 2020, on her 76th birthday. Goldie Malone

October 18, 1927 - March 11, 2020

Goldie Malone, 92, of Euclid, passed away peacefully on Mar. 11, 2020. She was born Oct. 18, 1927 in Cleveland to Nicholas and Helen Strahinic (nee Goles). She is survived by her daughter, Jamie Ann of Westmont, IL; and many nieces and nephews, and her cousin Janice Garvey. She was predeceased by her loving husband, James E. Malone; brothers: Nicholas, Eli, John, Michael, George, Peter and Milan and sister Mary Stanley. Goldie was a very active member of St. Nicholas Croatian Byzantine Catholic Church, the Croatian Fraternal Union – Zumberak Lodge 859, the Croatian Catholic Union 26, American Croatian Zagreb Jr. Tamburitzans, and Zumbercani Adult Tamburitzans. As a result of our current pandemic and the real concern for all of Goldie’s long time friends and people she’s touched, the family has decided to have the services private. A memorial service to honor Goldie’s life will be planned for a future date. Mijo Grman, 85, of Euclid passed away February 15, 2020. He was born January 23, 1935 in Zabljak, Croatia. He came to the US in 1974 and moved to Euclid in 1981 where he continued to live while always traveling back to his beloved Croatia. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Jagica; his children Joe (Marina) and Zdravko (Zdenka); his grandchildren: Barbara (Zoran) Zagrecki, Josip Jr., Danijela, Nicole, Victoria and Luka; his great-grandson Silvio Zagrecki; and his nephews Jura and Josip Grman and Miro Grgincic in Croatia. He was preceded in death by his parents Franjo and Mara, his sisters Kata (Ivan) Grman and Bara (Josip) Grgincic. Larry Stavnicky

March 18, 1940 - February 10, 2020

Larry Stavnicky (Lawrence). Age 79, peacefully passed away Feb. 10th due to Alzheimer's. He was the best friend and loving husband of Linda (nee Moodie) for over 57 years. Beloved father of Larry and Michael (Jolie); proud grandfather of Kate, Quinn and Luke; and his little Shih Tzu, Lexi; brother of Jean Whitehead (Ken) and Stephen (deceased). He attended Bowling Green University and went on to become a stock broker and Vice President with Murch and Co., a Cleveland brokerage company. He specialized in buying, selling, and trading stocks for his company. He was elected President of the Ohio traders association. In later years he worked for Cummins Diesel in sales, then a site manager, becoming the industrial sales manager for the state of Ohio. He was active in the West Geauga area sports where he coached both football and baseball. When he no longer coached he loved watching the grandchildren participate in sports. He was an avid racquetball player, and played for over twenty five years. After coming to the U.S. in 1969 she lived in Cleveland before moving to Parma in 1974. Josipa loved to sew, knit, garden and especially enjoying time with her family. Slavko enjoyed spending time with his family and especially sporting events with his grandchildren. He worked at MTD for 30 years and retired in 2002.
